African Students Association (ASA) is the ISU major organization for visiting scholars to Ames, and all registered ISU students, including African students and anyone interested in learning about African cultures. The goal is to provide opportunities for leadership development and practices, through sharing our diverse social, cultural, educational and recreational activities, that will motivate and refresh students mindset to enhance academic learning.
ASA in collaboration with NSBE now holds study tables every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. in 004 Carver Hall
We meet every week on Friday, from 6pm to 7pm, in Carver 204. Our meetings consist of discussions, planning, collaborations with other student organisations, and fun activities such as game nights and movie nights. Free food is also provided at times.
In the Fall, ASA hosted an Afrobeatz Night and a Soccer tournament. In the Spring, ASA will host an African Networking Dinner with Faculty, and our biggest event of the year: African Night. Other small events also take place throughout the year.
We fundraise at various locations on and off campus in order to raise money for our events. We also participate in some volunteering activities to strengthen relationships between ASA and the ISU/Ames community.
